Frequently Asked Questions

How do I start taking classes?  And which style is right for me?
Everyone gets started with a Free Introductory lesson. This one on one session will help us determine what program/style is right for you or your child.

If you are new to the martial arts, we will guide you through all the proper etiquette, safety tips, and material to have you comfortable to attend your second class which is with the rest of the group.

If you have had prior martial arts training, we will cover our terminology and prepare you to attend a class of your choosing.

You can schedule this Intro by clicking here, in person at KA, or over the phone:
303-443-3088.
Click here for descriptions of the different Introductory Courses!

After the Intro, you are free to attend a Group Class to see how you like the Group setting.

How much does it cost to train at Karate America?
You can view our full tuition information here.  We do Month to Month tuition, and we never do contracts (unlike the other 90% of martial arts schools out there).  We also have Drop in fees for our Part Time Adult Programs, as well as College Student rates.

What is the proper attire for class?
Karate Uniform (Gi)
The Karate Uniform is worn for many different reasons. The first is safety. The karate uniform has no zippers or metal buttons that can scratch or scrape your partner or instructor during training. Secondly, the martial arts are very physical and normal street clothes or workout clothes tend to get ripped, stretched and torn. The karate uniform also allows for a comfortable range of motion and movements.
The Karate Gi is included in several of our Introductory packages, or if you just need a new one, you may purchase one on the KA ProShop by clicking here.

All jewelry, watches and rings should be removed before each practice session. They cause a hazard to you, training partners and instructors. Valuables should not be left in the locker rooms. Karate America is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Valuables should be left at home or in your car.

Summer uniform:
During the summer months when the temperature begins to rise, Karate America offers a summer uniform consisting of a T-shirt and pair of shorts. This does not mean that students can show up with a Hawaiian shirt and swim suit. Only Karate America T-shirts and shorts are allowed. We strive to have our classes and student looking professional at all times.

Sparring and Grappling sessions:
T-shirts are allowed for sparring, grappling and vale tudo training. This allows students to train different moves that are not available when the karate uniform is worn.

How often should I attend class?
You may train as often as you like.  We have a variety of class styles and class times to fit anyone's schedule.  We can design a program that fits your needs.

What is the Black Belt Club?

When you earn your Green Belt, you are invited to join the Black Belt Club. These students are committed to earning the rank of Black Belt.  You see these students wearing a Blue Gi (uniform).  Unlike most schools where your tuition goes up after the Beginner program, we actually give you more discounts the longer you have been with us.  The Black Belt Club also gives you extra classes, workshops and discounts to help expand your martial arts experience.
